I started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a few years ago at the age of 53, not knowing anything about “The Gentle Art” before stepping on the mat the first time. I trained for about 4 months, sporadically before I ended up with a back injury. I loved the art, even though I’d never done any kind of contact sport before. After missing it way more than I ever expected, I made the big decision to try it again.
Now age 55, I officially started again this March (2017), a year and a half later. I’m training more and taking some private lessons to help me learn how not to get injured. My goal is to keep training, or at least keep trying, and my school McHugh Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is willing to encourage my efforts. I’m having a great time and love the school and the people there.
I may be an unexpected and an unorthodox (i.e. older) student of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but the Professor and Coaches support anyone willing to get on the mats and work hard. They truly believe that Jiu Jitsu is for everyone. Enjoy.
